A tech gadget named Poppy is
poised to be the following big Kickstarter success story. The unit turns your
iPhone right into a 3D camera that can be used to capture, view and share videos
as well as images. It works with apple iphone 4, 4S, iPhone 5 and the fifth
generation ipod itouch.
If you ever used a one of these View-Master toys as a kid, you’ll probably feel at home with Poppy. Similar to how those devices worked, Poppy relies on a set of mirrors that capture two stereographic images while using iPhone’s single camera. When a user looks with the Poppy viewfinder, they see these two images combined into one 3D visual.
Poppy doesn’t use any electronics there is no need for batteries - everything works using optics. This is believed to help keep the cost of the device low without having to sacrifice quality.
What’s more, in addition to capturing your personal pictures and videos, you should use the Poppy to view videos and movie trailers online as well. When you’re ready to capture the planet around you, simply twist the exterior apparatus and you’re all set.
A donation of just $39 guarantees you’ll be among the first to own the device when it ships in December.
Poppy launched on Kickstarter earlier today and it’s already off and away to a great start with more than $21,000 pledged from 312 backers by writing. There’s little doubt that the project will surpass the $40,000 goal - perhaps inside the first 24 hours.
